May 12, 2008 Covenant edition re-printed to qualify for US government standards. The first printing of the Covenant edition was rejected by US government "censors" but we were able to work with them to edit and re-print the Covenant edition so that it now qualifies within US government criteria as appropriately "secular." The faith and spirituality sections that were a problem to the US government were moved to this web site and the US government is OK with that. This allows couples who wish to look further into faith/spirituality/religion to search out these topics on the www. See Covenant links.
October 25, 2007 Printing of Covenant edition. This is the "secular" edition of For Better and For Ever created for marriage educators and others who are using US government grants to provide marriage preparation.
May 20, 2006. Printing of Canadian edition.
Because of the success of For Better and For Ever in Canada, we printed a Canadian English edition in May 2006.

December 26, 2005 New Printing of For Better and For Ever – in January 2006
The following changes/corrections will be made in Catholic, English, edition. Comparable changes will be made in the Spanish edition and in the Christian edition.
p. 94: add the following after paragraph 3 and before Point 2:
Couples who are willing and ready to make the permanent and unconditional commitment of marriage should talk candidly about how illness or tragedy could affect their commitment. How would you deal with a situation in which the personality or the physical appearance of your spouse changes due to severe disability or disfigured because of illness or serious accident? While it is probably not possible or advisable to prepare for every possible tragedy, it is prudent to seek assistance in drafting living wills and preparing documents of durable power of attorney. Have you discussed this?
p. 96 – Add New Footnote to end of #6. - For a national listing of marriage friendly counselors, see page 179, #5.
p. 99: Question 4 – additional text is added:
Question 4 – Can I think of a reason that I would consider separation from my partner? _______ If my spouse became severely disabled or disfigured because of illness, or serious accident I would respond to our situation by __________________
________________________________________________________________________If he/she were in a coma and the best medical opinion was that it was likely to be permanent I would ____________________________________________________
p. 138. 3rd to last line: replace current text: “documents of Vatican Council II, the papal document Humanae Vitae (1968) and more recent documents on Christian marriage and family life.” With: “the Catechism of the Catholic Church and some kind of adult bible study.”
p. 142: add the following between question 3 and “Further thoughts and feelings:”
4 - It is never easy to consider the difficult topic of permanent injury or death of your spouse or yourself. Tending to these questions now will not make such tragedies less painful but this kind of planning can help you (or your spouse) be better prepared to cope with “the worst.”
- Have you written a will?
- Have you prepared documents of durable power of attorney?
- Do you know your spouse’s wishes about medical treatment if he/she is unconscious or in a coma?
- Have you made decisions about donation of your organs in case of sudden death?
- Could you plan your spouse’s funeral?
- Do you know their favorite hymns and Scripture passages?
- Have you discussed where you would like to be buried, and whether you prefer cremation or burial of your body?

- The numbers, e.g. "3.2" are no longer part of the title. The purpose of the number "3" was to identify For Better and For Ever as the 3rd edition of the work which was first published by Liguori Publications in 1980 and revised in 1989. The ".0", then ".1", then ".2" was intended to indicate significant updates of the 3rd edition. From now on, page 2 will give information about the edition (e.g., "3.2a") and the printing date (e.g., "December 2001").
- The information "Roman Catholic Edition" has been added to the cover.
- Back cover: New information has been added.
